Pastoral Care Ministries
Pastoral care ministry is the intentional mission of the entire parish community. The goal is to reconnect and build up who we are as the Body of Christ.
|
| |
BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
Supports families in the parish who have experienced a death. Trained persons help plan and carry out the funeral liturgy, lead prayer vigils at the funeral home, and provide food service. Follow up newsletters, phone calls, when possible, and information regarding Archdiocese support group classes is offered. An annual mass of remembrance is held.
|
| |
COFFEE AND DONUTS
This gathering ordinarily takes place after all masses on the first Sunday of the month, September through June. The purpose is to promote community among parishioners. It is hosted by various groups and ministries of the parish.
|
| |
HEALING BLANKETS
A sewing ministry that creates simple lap blankets to touch the lives of people with chronic or serious illness.
|
| |
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS TO THE SICK AND ELDERLY
Trained
parishioners lead communion services or bring communion individually
to residents of Belmont Village, Atria St. Matthews, St. Matthews
Manor and Twinbrook Nursing Home. We also bring communion to patients
at Baptist Hospital East daily. Other persons minister to homebound
parishioners on a weekly basis. In addition a "visitation" ministry
is in process to parishioners residing in nursing/assisted living
facilities other than the above.

| |
HEALTH SCREENINGS
Blood pressure screening by health professionals is offered after the 5:30 PM, 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM masses on a monthly basis. A health care committee meets regularly to determine, promote and provide additional health and wellness opportunities.

NEIGHBORHOOD REPRESENTATIVES/HOUSE MINISTRY
Persons
act as ambassadors between parishioners and the parish and work with
parish council representatives and house coordinators to communicate
with members and welcome newcomers. Each council representative is
responsible for a given area of parishioners called "Houses." Each House has two coordinators. There are seven houses, i.e., "Merton House", "Seaton House," etc.
Several neighborhood representatives minister to a portion of people
within each House. This is
primarily a phone ministry.
|
| |
NEWCOMER WELCOMING MINISTRY
The process for welcoming and registration of newcomers consists of two sessions. The first meeting will (ordinarily) be held at 7:00PM in the Adult Center on the first Monday of each month. It will consist of basic parish information and an overview of stewardship. The second meeting will be a brunch after the 11:30 AM mass (ordinarily) on the second Sunday of every other month. In addition to the brunch, there will be a witness presentation on stewardship living and an explanation of neighborhood/area representatives. It will culminate with a parish covenant signing and return of the Time, Talent and Treasure Cards. Attendance at both sessions is required for registration.
|
| |
PRAYER LINE
A telephone ministry whereby parishioners may call and speak with a designated staff member to request prayer for their special needs or the needs of others. The designated staff person at the Parish Center will place and update requests on a prayer Line as the need arises. Persons may obtain the prayer requests Monday through Friday by calling the Prayer Line.

THREADS OF LOVE
A sewing ministry supporting the neonatal intensive care unit of the children's hospital. We provide for premature and sick infants; in addition, when a parent is faced with loss of an infant, we reach out to them through our sewing skills. All sewing, crocheting and knitting is done at your own home, in your own time. There is a monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month for one hour. |
