Outreach

The Outreach Committee is dedicated to strengthening and nurturing our responsibility to serve and assist all of God’s people. Time required: meets monthly on the first Monday at 7:00 PM. Contact: Larry Bloemer 897-1412

Advent Tree – Prepare agency and individual requests for items, deliver gifts, and ensure that all needs are filled. Time required: four meetings over a three month period (October, November, and December). Contact: Cindy Mason 245-5058

Children’s Chapel at Churchill Downs is an opportunity to share faith and assist with crafts, discussion, and Bible stories for children while their parents attend a religious service. Lourdes staffs this ministry Monday evenings and volunteers serve every 4 to 6 weeks. Lesson plans and materials are provided. Contact: Marie Pierce 896-0241

Dressed in Love – This ministry combines talent, passion, and resources to provide clothing and school uniforms to children in need across the world. If you can measure, cut, iron, package, or count…you can help! Contact: Anna Maria Trier 552-0573 or Jennifer Greulich 649-7674

Hand in Hand Ministries – This Louisville-based international social service organization provides life’s essentials to the poorest of the poor. We offer an opportunity to lend a hand and change a life through mission trips and donations of goods, service, and talents. Contact: Debbie Parker 721-6091

Human Trafficking – This ministry is an ongoing effort to combat human trafficking by providing education, time, and/or resources to facilitate the rehabilitation of victims. Contact: Andrea Vetter 599-9168

Knights of Columbus, Ave Maria Council 15931 – Established in April of 2014, this council is part of the national organization of 1.8 million Catholic gentlemen 18 years of age or older. Lenten Giving Project – Prepare agency requests for items, deliver gifts, and ensure that all requests are filled. Time required: two meetings in February. Contact: Katie Furlong 897-4755

Lions Club Eyeglasses – Unused eyeglasses and sunglasses are collected in a box in the Atrium and sent to areas where they can be used. Contact: Douglas Kersting 893-2065

Mother’s Day Baby Shower – Annual collection of diapers and other baby items for Catholic Charities. Contact: Matt Whisman 640-6803

Nativity Academy Backpack Collection – Annual collection of school supplies for Nativity Academy at St. Boniface. Nativity is a Catholic preparatory middle school serving inner-city children of academic promise. Contact: Ashley Davenport 554-6995

Needy Fund “Call Takers” – Assistance offered to individuals who call the Parish Office for help with rent and utilities. Families must be working with one of the area ministerial associations. Time required varies. Contact: Nub & Betty Miller 239-1007

Neighborhood House Kid’s Café – An opportunity to serve neighbors in need. Volunteers serve meals, clean up, and offer a craft activity two days a month. Time required: approximately 1 hour. Contact: Brian Merkely 645-0572

Rosebud Indian Mission Collection – Annual collection in June or July for gently used clothing, furniture, and housewares. Items are boxed and loaded onto semi-trailers for delivery to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Time required is 4 to 8 hours during the collection week. Contact: Emily Fritz 339-1839

St. Joseph of Arimathea – This ministry works with the Jefferson County Coroner’s office to assist with burying the indigent with dignity by providing tombstones, burial clothing, and a prayer service. Contact: Matt Whisman 640-6803

St. MAM Representative – Individuals serve on the St. Matthews Area Ministries Board of Directors as liaison between the St. Matthews community of churches and Our Lady of Lourdes. Representatives are asked to serve on one of St. MAM’s standing committees. Contacts: Kathy Monroe 897-0571

Soup Kitchen – Individuals serve meals at St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen. Meals are served from 5:00 – 5:30 PM (1st & 3rd Saturday, 2nd Sunday, 3rd Monday, 4th Thursday) and from 12:00 – 12:30 PM (3rd Sunday). Contact: Marie Pierce 893-9022

Thanksgiving Day Collection – This annual collection is sponsored by the Worship Committee at Thanksgiving. Families and individuals bring the requested items to Thanksgiving Day liturgy. Contact: Josh & Julie McGregor 895-9483

Threads of Love – A sewing ministry supporting the neonatal intensive care unit of the children’s hospital and the St. Joseph of Arimathea project. All sewing, crocheting, and knitting is done at home, on your own time. Occasional meetings as needed. Contact: Anna Maria Trier 339-1839

Turkey Collection for Little Sisters of the Poor – This ministry supports the work of the Little Sisters, a religious order founded in 1839 and later established in Louisville in 1869. Turkeys are collected in the parking lot during the weekend prior to Thanksgiving at all Masses. The turkeys are used to feed the many residents at Little Sisters of the Poor. Time required: 2 hours. Yard Sale – Annual Outreach Yard Sale in June or July. Parishioners are encouraged to support this event through the donation of material goods, personal time, or monetary gifting. All monetary proceeds from the sale benefit outside charitable organizations. Time required: 4 – 8 hours during the week prior to the sale and 2 – 6 hours the day of the sale.
