Human Trafficking This ministry is an ongoing effort to combat human trafficking by providing education, time, and/or resources to facilitate the rehabilitation of victims.

Knights of Columbus, Ave Maria Council 15931 Established in April of 2014, this council is part of the national organization of 1.8 million Catholic gentlemen 18 years of age or older. Meets on the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM. More information here.

Lions Club Eyeglasses Unused eyeglasses and sunglasses are collected in a box in the Atrium and sent to areas where they can be used.

Nativity Academy Backpack Collection Annual collection of school supplies for Nativity Academy at St. Boniface. Nativity is a Catholic preparatory middle school serving inner-city children of academic promise.

Needy Fund “Call Takers” Assistance offered to individuals who call the Parish Office for help with rent and utilities. Families must be working with one of the area ministerial associations. Time required varies.

Rosebud Indian Mission Collection Annual collection in June or July for gently used clothing, furniture, and housewares. Items are boxed and loaded onto semi-trailers for delivery to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Time required is 4 to 8 hours during the collection week.

St. Baldrick’s – The Lourdes St. Baldrick’s event is held once a year, usually in March and is supported by the Booster Club. All proceeds raised benefit the St. Baldrick’s organization which funds research to cure children’s cancers. Volunteers are needed for the committee that puts on the event where participants shave their heads for pledges, or (girls) who cut off their hair for donation.

St. Joseph of Arimathea This ministry works with the Jefferson County Coroner’s office to assist with burying the indigent with dignity by providing tombstones, burial clothing, and a prayer service.

St. MAM Representative Individuals serve on the St. Matthews Area Ministries Board of Directors as liaison between the St. Matthews community of churches and Our Lady of Lourdes.

Soup Kitchen Individuals serve meals at St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen. Meals are served from 5:00 – 5:30 PM (1st & 3rd Saturday, 2nd Sunday, 3rd Monday, 4th Thursday) and from 12:00 – 12:30 PM (3rd Sunday).

Thanksgiving Day Collection This annual collection is sponsored by the Worship Committee at Thanksgiving. Families and individuals bring the requested items to Thanksgiving Day liturgy.

Turkey Collection for Little Sisters of the Poor This ministry supports the work of the Little Sisters, a religious order founded in 1839 and later established in Louisville in 1869. Turkeys are collected in the parking lot during the weekend prior to Thanksgiving at all Masses. The turkeys are used to feed the many residents at Little Sisters of the Poor. Time required: 2 hours.

Yard Sale Annual Outreach Yard Sale in June or July. Parishioners are encouraged to support this event through the donation of material goods, personal time, or monetary gifting. All monetary proceeds from the sale benefit outside charitable organizations. Time required: 4 – 8 hours during the week prior to the sale and 2 – 6 hours the day of the sale.
