The athletic program at Our Lady of Lourdes provides the opportunity for every child who attends the school or belongs to the parish community to participate in team sports. The program promotes self-esteem and respect for others through competition in a Christian manner, with the emphasis on good sportsmanship. The Athletic Ministry at Our Lady of Lourdes exists for the benefit of the children of our parish who wish to improve their physical and mental well-being by participating in structured athletic programs. The Athletic Committee is headed by the Athletic Director and membership is open to all women and men of the parish who wish to promote and support the various parish sports programs. The Athletic Committee establishes policies, guidelines and operating budgets for the sports programs. The Committee monitors all sports programs to assure that all regulations and objectives as established by the OLOL Athletic Handbook and the Catholic School Athletic Association are followed. Individuals can work in a variety of activities. Coaches and assistant coaches are needed for every sport (i.e., basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, softball, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, etc.) for elementary and middle school age students. There are also opportunities for concession stand managers/workers, photographers, time/score keepers, equipment managers, organizers and coordinators for various adult sports programs (i.e., golf outing, softball league, volleyball, open gym night, etc.). The time required to participate in the Athletic Ministry, in addition to attending regular monthly meetings, varies depending on the number of activities in which you are involved.
