Music Ministries

The mission of the music ministry at Our Lady of Lourdes is to glorify God through the gift of music. The music ministry also offers participants the chance to learn more about the church through liturgy and song, and to serve the parish through their music. If you’ve ever thought about joining one of these groups or suggesting it to your children—now is a great time to become a part of this dynamic ministry. Call Elaine Winebrenner for details—896-0241.

Cantor Ministry
A cantor is present at all liturgical celebrations with music. Just as the priest leads us in prayer, the cantor leads us in prayer through music. The cantor serves as both musician and prayer leader and must, therefore, be comfortable in both roles. The cantor's main responsibility is to support the assembly's "full, active and conscious" participation during liturgical celebrations.

Parish Choir
The adult choir is open to singers eighteen years old and above. The choir ministers at weekend liturgies, from September through May, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Holy Week services and Easter. Members are given training and formation in liturgy, music, vocal and choral technique. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm.

Youth Choir and Ensemble
This group enables young people thirteen and older to share their vocal and instrumental gifts and talents at the weekend liturgies. They participate once every month and for special liturgies. Rehearsals are held one hour before the 11:30 AM Mass at which they are scheduled.

Children's Choir
Children ages seven to twelve are eligible to join the Children's Choir. This is an opportunity for the children of our parish to learn about choral singing and vocal technique while gaining an understanding of their liturgical role as a choir member. Rehearsals are held twice a month on Wednesday evenings at 6:00PM.

Handbell Choir
The three-octave handbell choir for adults and high school age young people is a new music group that started in the fall of 2002. This group participates weekend liturgies and at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Children's Handbell Choir
Fifth through eighth graders are eligible to join this group. This is a great opportunity to introduce children to participation in a musical group and to stewardship. This group participates in some Sunday Liturgies and at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists are encouraged to offer their talents to God through the Lourdes Music Ministry. Opportunities are available for people who play trumpet, violin, guitar, mandolin, dulcimer and various woodwinds. Instrumentalists are used at various liturgies throughout the year.

Family Choir
Every August interested families and individuals come together for the 11:30AM Liturgy to form a "Family Choir."

Christmas Angel Choir
Children ages five and six participate with the Children's Choir at the Christmas Eve Vigil Liturgy.

The Music Ministries at Our Lady of Lourdes are under the direction of Elaine Winebrenner. The principal organist is Connie Graven and the associate organist is Jan Bloemer.

This ministry's journey represents the diversity of music accompanying our worship services. The words, music and efforts of everyone involved are our way of thanking God for the gifts He has bestowed on us. May this music help bring God's peace to all our hearts.
