Liturgical Ministries

 

 

 

Sacristan (Mass Coordinator)
Persons to prepare bread and wine, gather and place elements needed for Mass prior to all parish liturgies/services. Check in lectors, greeters, servers, cross bearers, candle bearers, gift bearers and assist with gathering and offertory processionals.

 

Art and Environment
The Art and Environment Committee is responsible for decorating the church. Duties also include the planning and coordinating of decorations (i.e., banners, candles, vestments, plants, flowers etc.) for the current cycle of the liturgical year. Time required: varies based on the season.

 

Communion Ministers
Gracious persons to distribute the Eucharist at the Mass. Duties include being present fifteen minutes before Mass to confirm your presence. Proper sanctuary attire is a must. Time required: advanced training and approximately thirty minutes on assigned week (fifteen minutes before and after Mass).

 

Gift Bearers
Dedicated families and/or individuals to assist in bringing up the gifts at the Offertory. Time required is approximately ten minutes before Mass on assigned weekend or Holy Day to confirm your presence with the Sacristan.

 

Hospitality
Friendly, outgoing persons to greet parishioners, newcomers and guests as they arrive for Mass and other Parish functions. Duties also include caring for individual needs, seating people, collection of the offerings, distribution of the parish bulletins and straightening of the pews after Mass. Time required: approximately forty minutes on assigned week (twenty minutes before and after Mass). Training provided.

 

Lectors
Adults with good voice quality who enunciate clearly and proclaim with understanding of and reverence for God's Word. Scheduled on a rotating basis, usually once every six to ten weeks depending on which Mass time is chosen. To ensure the best preparation, workbooks are provided and training is required. Proper sanctuary attire is a must. Prayerful time preparing for assigned liturgy is expected.

 

Processional Cross Bearer
Persons to carry the processional cross at the entrance and recessional processions for weekend Liturgies. Time required: On a rotating basis according to the number of people involved.

 

Servers
Reverent, conscientious adults, teens and preteens to prepare for and assist at Liturgies. Duties include custody and presentation of Book for the priest, preparation of the altar, assist in receiving the Eucharistic gifts, and preparing the sanctuary environment for the next gathering. Time requirements: advanced training plus approximately forty minutes on assigned dates (twenty minutes before and after Mass).

 

Liturgy Planners
Enthusiastic and creative persons to help plan liturgies for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and selected feasts and holidays. Training available. Time required: usually monthly except during the summer months.
